With all of the recent coverage concerning green tea, a lot of you just have to be wondering about possible green tea side effects. Well, get ready – are you ready? Because this is probably going to be a little bit difficult to believe. Common side effects of green tea are … nothing! There really and truly are no reports of serious or detrimental side effects from the tea. That includes side effects of green tea extract in supplements as well. Now, okay, that does not mean there are no side effects at all - but the potential side effects which have been reported have all been labeled as minor side effects which are not lethal or harmful to anyone taking the tea.
You must be interested in what small negative side effects do exist, though, and here are the most commonly described. For starts, after you begin drinking a lot of the tea, you may find yourself going to the bathroom more often than you did before – but that is okay! Put very simply – tea makes you pee! A lot, in some cases, but that is only because the tea is having a cleansing affect on your body. Once your body gets used to it, this particular side effect will ease off in time.
Insomnia is another potential green tea side effect, but only in certain cases. If you are drinking a caffeinated tea but are not otherwise used to caffeinated products, the tea may cause insomnia. However, if you are used to drinking coffee – even just a cup a day – then this side affect will probably not bother you at all, because one cup of coffee has seventy more milligrams than one cup of green tea. Furthermore, there is decaffeinated green tea available, and using various steeping and brewing processes, you can actually reduce – or completely cut out – the caffeine in the tea yourself, right at home.
Some researchers have seen various other minor green tea capsule side effects or side effects by drinking the tea but they are quick to point out that they are very minor side effects and that they disappear over time, as your body gets used to the amount of tea you are drinking or capsules you are using. Possible minor side effects include gas or upset stomach, heartburn, headache, and occasional dizziness – but again, these are minor side effects that lessen and disappear over time, and not everyone who drinks the tea will experience them. So what are you waiting for? Go get some green tea!
