Caffeine Content in Green Tea
Now, come on - green tea is still a tea, and like all teas (unless they are decaffeinated, but that is another article altogether!), it does have a certain amount of caffeine in it. Some people prefer it that way, because let's face it - some mornings, caffeine is a necessary evil to help up get the amount of get up and go we need to literally get up and go! But the following article contains a few tips and tricks you may not know about green tea and about the caffeine content in green tea - so here we go!
First of all, just consider this: if your usual serving is about eight ounces of green tea or coffee, then per eight ounces of green tea, you are getting about thirty milligrams of caffeine over all; per eight ounce cup of coffee, you are looking at about one hundred milligrams of caffeine - that is a difference of seventy milligrams! You could drink three eight ounce cups of green tea and still end up getting less caffeine content in green tea that you would get in just one eight ounce cup of coffee!
Studies have shown that too much caffeine is dangerous and that most people, thanks to consuming coffee, chocolate, and soda products, consume an average of two hundred and eight milligrams of caffeine - per day! Considering that most sources say that consuming anything more than two hundred milligrams of caffeine per day is very unhealthy, those numbers are particularly astounding. That means that people should really only drink two cups of coffee - but thanks to the substantially lower caffeine content in green tea, you can drink anywhere from five to six cups of green tea per day and still be within the healthy bounds of caffeine consumption.
But there are decaffeinated green tea products available - and here is a little secret: it is actually possible to remove the caffeine - but still keep all the health benefits - from green tea yourself. Sources suggest that if you steep green tea in hot water for about forty five seconds, then pour off the liquid and add more hot water, continuing the steeping process as you normally would, you can cut out the caffeine content in green tea. However, it that is a little bit too tedious for you, or if you are worried about compromising the green tea's flavor, aroma, and health benefits, then you can also initially steep your tea for just one minute, as opposed to the usual two minute brewing and steeping time.
